IF YOU LOVE WHAT WE DO...
WE NEED YOU TO HAVE OUR BACK!
We need your generosity, to help us financially transition the
theatre through this time while we secure a new space. With no box
office or bar concessions we need some help from donors like you to
take care of those ongoing expenses for a small non profit like Arts
Equity. You know, keep the website updated, and keep our non profit
going kind of stuff!
You can use the paypal button below
or you can send a check to the
address below. More of "your contribution" reaches us with a check as we do
not have to pay credit card fees.
We will keep the fundraising thermometer updated on our website.
HOW PRODUCING IN A SPACE NOT OUR OWN CHANGED US.
When we vacated the Main Street Theatre, we were overly optimistic
that the audience we had built over three years would translate to the
Portland locations. We attempted to keep producing by renting venues
in Portland, only because, nearly two thirds of our audience over the
first three years came from Oregon zip codes.
What we discovered was that in "the Couve we seemed more a novelty;"
that got us some press coverage and multiple reviews of many if not
most of our shows. In Portland we were one of over a hundred theatre
companies...which translate into limited coverage for all but a very
few...we certainly were not "a Portland novelty" by any standard.
During our time at "Theater, Theatre" in Portland this summer we
played to 123 patrons over 9 weeks and 24 performances. Joey LeBard
deserves a medal for his performances. To put that in perspective,
123 patrons is one tenth of the worst show during any of the previous
seasons. At the Main Street we could "self publish" to the walking
crowd in our windows on Main street. Portland afforded us no options
out side of massage media buys in the metropolitan area, something we
have never been able to afford.
We learned a lot...actually, more than we wanted to learn. Maybe
That's why they call it an art not a science.
SO WHAT ARE WE UP TO?
We are concentrating on serving our community in SW Washington. We
have written some large grants recently and we will continue to do so
while exploring other community partnerships.
Our search continues actively for an "artistic home" in SW
Washington.
HELP US MOVE THAT THERMOMETER ALL THE WAY TO $25K
On securing another facility, we will continue with our
productions... with some very interesting tweaks. We think we have
most of the formula solved on how to be "sustainable." Working on our
programming, we think there could be as many as a dozen reasons a week
to be part of the the art culture of Vancouver.
We have good real estate agent and we are actively looking at
property to lease with an option to purchase.
For those of you who saw Herringbone, with that amazing Taylor Askman
you will remember:
"Culture during hard times does real well."
